CoT:

  • The STANDARD. We have heard a lot of this in CoT’s recently as many people have been watching the GoRuck STANDARD.  I want to talk about another STANDARD.  This past Saturday I participated in my daughter’s school virtual Daddy/Daughter Night Out.  This entailed getting a little gift bag from the school with various items like candy, popcorn, a flower, bingo game, selfie props, etc.  It also entailed ordering some takeout & then sitting down just you & your daughter & watching a movie.  The night before my daughter talked about how she could not sleep she was so excited & all day on Friday she kept asking me when I was going to be done with work.  So at the end of my day we got our little gift bag out we put together the selfie props & did some pictures, then we got the living room all set up so it was like we would be in a movie theatre later.  I put on a sport coat & then I placed the corsage on her wrist.  We walked to the car in which I opened the door for her & we talked to whole way to Freedom Bros to get our pizza & we talked the whole way back. We crushed some pizza, took an intermission to make popcorn together, & topped it off with a mixture of terrible candy in twizzlers, sour patch, & Swedish fish.  After the movie she gave me a huge hug & told me how much she loved me.  I continually find myself taking for granted these moments & not doing enough of them.  As I went through the planning of this night & how I would treat my daughter I wanted to set a STANDARD for her.  A STADARD that she should expect from any man as she goes through her life.  A man who takes time to plan out the special stuff, willing to get dressed up & appreciate her with a small flower & opening a car door.  A man willing to have a conversation & also be silly by eating some disgusting candy.  To many men don’t take the time to set a STANDARD with their daughters.  It is important…really important.  If they don’t know what the STANDARD is they will settle for less.  Set the STANDARD for the special young ladies in your life especially if you have daughters.  AYE!

Lord thank you for this opportunity to be in this moment today with these men.  We have felt you call us to this group of men to change our lives.  We feel you calling for us to embrace this change to be better men.  Lord we know more importantly now more than ever in this world today you are calling for us to be your leaders & to be the CHANGE for others.   Watch over us, those that were spoken aloud, & for those that are in our hearts.  In your name we pray.  AMEN
