The Thang

Thang 1 5:05—5:25

7:30 mile run pace to the Bridge from the community center parking lot. (BD AO location). We ended up with just under 8 minutes due to ice on the path.

For the Bridge – Bear Crawl to the middle. 10 Burpees. High kicks the rest of the way. 10 Burpees. Lunges half way back. 10 Burpees. Crawl Bear the rest of the way 10 Burpees.

*QIC mistake and learning opportunity that AAR helped me realize. Half had finished and I pulled the rest off the bridge to move on. Should have waited as we were stacked 2×2 on the bridge.

5:25—5:35

Tonka’s 6 Competition Run QIC explains the run.

Running on the path from the Bridge to the East side of the hill then over the hill and stop on the West side.

*You want to pass as many men as you can and get to the front. Count how many you pass.

*If out front and QIC yells 6 you turn and run backwards to the 6 then begin to pass PAX again and work toward the front.

*Most PAX passed wins.

Thang 2 5:35—5:45

Collaboration Thang with Den Mother’s BC group. This was awesome to have 30 PAX mixed together and doing one Thang together. Designed to show others what BD’s are. Thank you Den Mother for letting me take that time from your Q.

East side of hill to Community Center parking lot

Circle of Trust

It is by no accident that we are here today. F3 in Naperville didn’t happen by accident, Black Diamonds didn’t happen by accident. Crossroads, growth, fitness and finding like minded men didn’t happen by accident. Think back to all of the small decisions you had to make to get to this very point in your life. You have set yourself up for this opportunity to get better. Did you get better this morning mentally and physically? Yes? Then you won.

Dr. Suess quotes here we go….

“I’m afraid sometimes you’ll play lonely games too, games you can’t win because you’ll play against you.”

We all play personal mind games that limit us and hold us back. I often hear I am not ready for BD’s or I cannot keep up. Drop those today and encourage others to do the same. I dropped that when I showed up to Dilly Dilly’s BD here at the Ridge in August. I had confidence and then was humbled when I was the 6. But I chose not to accept the 6.

Next Dr. Suess quote…

“Oh the things you can find, if you don’t stay behind!”

I like constant change and initially decided I’d only go to a BD if someone I knew went with me. I dropped that excuse quickly and showed up without really knowing anyone at a Naperville Black Diamond at Black Panther with Lewinsky on Q. I walk up and he says “ever done a Black Diamond before?” We laughed. Then I make a family connection with Serena and afterwards Tonka encouraged me to join his next Q and keep after it.

Next one…

“You’re off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So… get on your way!”

Black Diamonds have taken me to areas that I have lived locally and never even know about. That’s cool I guess. But what Black Diamonds have really done have taken me to great places mentally. You don’t know what you can actually accomplish physically until you get past your mental physical limitations on yourself.

Next one….

“You’ll be on your way up! You’ll be seeing great sights! You’ll join the high fliers who soar to high heights.”

I’ll admit that I thought Black Diamonds were all of the elite athletes in Naperville and that was it. Well it’s true, they are. But what I didn’t realize is how good of people they are and how they truly accept everyone and bring you in quickly if you are open and willing to work. Tonka, Uncle Rico, Blue Clues, Augustus Gloop, Serena, Ball Boy, Boxcutter, Aladdin, FIB Muggsy, House Arrest and BabyHands have all brought me in with no judgement and all positivity, time and willing to help on a snap.

Next one…

“If you never did you should. These things are fun and fun is good”

You did it. Your first time or 20th Black Diamond. If you did this alone you may have stopped short but sharing the experience with others and the mumblechatter is what it’s all about. We did it together and my hope is that this moment will always be a positive memory and that we can repeat it together over and over again.

Final quote

“Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for the men here today and for those people around us that lift us up and encourage us to do the uncommon. Help us to realize that we can do so much more than what our minds tell us we can’t. And to also encourage us to be there for others when they need help getting past the same mental barriers. Continue to be there for those that need you the most or have yet to find you and provide them with the peace and understanding they are seeking. In your name, Amen.

Naked Man Moleskin

18 men, 13 from Crossroads and 5 from Naperville made the decision to get better today and push themselves to their physical and mental limits. You won the Gloom today.

Crossroads Black Diamond Tuesdays is now a thing. Keep moving forward in our growth!

I’m honored to have the opportunity to step up and lead this kick off Q. Tclaps to Naperville for setting the standard, structure and constant support and to Crossroads LT 1.0 for making this officially happening.

-Sparkler out.
